Congrats to Orgoo Co-Founder Sean Rad for representing the Orgoo Team in this ‘Dog & Pony’ interview on BNET:
Isn’t it great when you can easily manage your messages? Orgoo already makes it easy to manage your emails, IMs and video chats, but what about text messages? Chances are that your phone’s inbox fills up and messages disappear. We’ve had the same problem and think it’s time for a solution.
Introducing Orgoo SMS powered by Joopz, giving you organized text messaging right from your Orgoo account. With Orgoo SMS you’ll be able to send texts right from your browser and receive incoming SMS to your Orgoo account or forwarded to your phone (coming soon). Any SMS conversation will look and feel just like an IM. Plus, your messages can be easily archived, forwarded and organized - like any other message in Orgoo.
We’re very excited to be working with the Joopz Team to integrate one of the coolest SMS products we’ve seen. We also look forward to working with other innovative companies to bring you the features you want!
We launched our beta release of Orgoo Video Chat on Monday. Thanks to everyone who checked it out and sent us their feedback - much appreciated! We know of some bugs and performance issues that we’ll release fixes for soon. In the meantime, you’ll find that wearing headphones helps reduce echo/feedback and stopping any large downloads will free-up extra bandwidth to improve overall quality.
Video chat will be integrated into the Orgoo member experience very soon. Member features will include one-click invites from the buddy list, the ability to save chat logs and private video calling with any contact. We’re excited to get this live for our beta users!
Special thanks to TechCrunch, Webware, VentureBeat and a handful of bloggers for the launch coverage!
It seems like just yesterday that Orgoo was chosen among “forty of the hottest new startups from around the world” at the TechCrunch 40 conference. What a great experience!
Thanks to Dealmaker Media, we have the opportunity to participate in another great conference, Under the Radar. Orgoo has been chosen to present along with 32 other companies “with a quest for innovation and a tendency towards disruption”.
The conference is on March 20, 2008 at the Microsoft campus in Mountain View, CA. This gives us just under two months to launch some exciting new features we’ve been working on. Stay tuned for updates!
People always ask me “what does Orgoo mean?” (a WSJ article asked the same question). Well here is the story that will explain it all…
Coming up with a name for our service was a difficult task, particularly when it seems that every .com you can think of has a registered owner. At one point, I even typed a bunch of random letters on the keyboard and added a .com to the end of it… just to find out someone already owned it.
After months of frustration, I took a pen and paper and tried to most accurately describe our mission. I wrote “to infinitely organize online communications.” There it was, the two key words: organization and infinity. So I played with the two words and eventually stumbled upon Orgoo, which means infinite organization (ORG = organization and OO = infinity). Then came the moment of truth… was the .com available? Crap, according to GoDaddy it was registered! But this name was too good to give up. My plan was to call the owner in the morning and make him an offer he couldn’t refuse. The next day I woke up to a delightful surprise, I don’t know what happened, but suddenly orgoo.com was available for registration! I think it was meant to be…
On December 4th & 5th Orgoo’s CEO, Michael Kantor, competed in the longest and most grueling road race in North America, the 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Unlike every other of the 72 cars competing, the Orgoo car is powered by an alternative fuel, cellulosic ethanol. Learn more here and watch footage of the race here.
